Just a quick post about something exciting in WestAcre news. Jason and I will be on the CBS 4 Denver morning news this Sunday (July 30th) to talk about the film and show some clips. The timing is perfect for plugging the August 1st test screening. I learned that it’s not as easy as I thought to pick clips for TV. The basic interview intro clip is 30 seconds, and a lot of the humor in the movie builds over the course of a scene, so finding 30 second segments that set up a scene and end with a joke has been a fun challenge. Figuring out what to say is the other, more daunting part of it all…
If you’re in Denver tune in Sunday, July 30th to CBS at 7am.

For anyone in the Denver area who catches this before next week, we have an official time, date and location for the WestAcre test screening. We’re looking for feedback here, so it’s open to anyone not directly related to the film. Based on the audience reaction and comments we’ll fine tune the film over the next month before submitting it to fests.
Here’s the info:
Tuesday August 1st
7-9 PM
Starz Film Center
900 Auraria Parkway
Denver, CO 80202
RSVP: wctestscreening@gmail.com
Admission is free and Tivoli parking is validated with your theater stub.
Doors open at 6:30. After the film you’ll be asked to fill out a comment card with your thoughts on the film. We’ll stick around afterwards for anyone who wants to give us thoughts beyond the card.

Not too much to say that won’t be said better elsewhere, but man…
I’m a pretty huge Floyd fan, and I’m not fan-crazy for too many groups, so this is a hard one. Every Floyd fan has had the story of Barrett pounded into their heads through multiple listenings of “Shine On You Crazy Diamond,” and even though Syd dropped out before the band hit superstar status, his influence stayed with the band throughout their careers. I’d even go so far to say that they got quite a bit of mileage out of the “former band member went nuts” bit. Barrett’s one of the few individuals that make you wonder where we’d be without them, kind of like George Lucas is to Star Wars and John Lennon to the Beatles.
If Pink Floyd had never been, I’m sure I’d be listening to something else instead, but what about the influences and imitators? Would the replacement Floyd have brought the same feelings and experiences? Probably not… Syd’s life legacy is in something he started many, many years ago. Something he abandoned for lack of ability to continue. Where would Pink Floyd have gone had he been able to stay with the group? The answer almost doesn’t matter. As a founding member he gets credit for the entire Floyd catalog. And that’s fine.
Syd’s last years were spent living with his mom, painting, gardening and collecting royalties.
His Wikipedia entry…

Things are rolling along on post production of my first feature film project, WestAcre. The film is in a completed rough edit and we’ve got about two weeks to get things polished up for a test screening. There’s a shitload of work to do (ADR work, scene re-edits, music scoring and a few random reshoots). Anyways, the MySpace page is rolling along too, with a new teaser up. If you’re already on MySpace, add the movie as a friend. For anyone in the Denver area looking for something free to do around August 1st, I’ll be posting info on the test screening once the details are hammered out. So far we know it will be in a 160 seat theater at the Starz Film Center in Denver. More details coming soon!
